Singsoc is planning a day trip to the O.M.G. (Old Melbourne Gaol [pronounced jail]) where you can step back in time and walk the road to the gallows - in a 19th century prison.
Some information about the O.M.G.:
- It is an iconic landmark is the site where 135 people, including infamous bushranger Ned Kelly, were hanged
- It was a focus during some of Australia's most significant historical moments, including the Gold Rush and World War II
- Bushrangers, murderers, baby farmers and gangsters kept here lived alongside petty offenders, including lunatics, vagrants and bankrupts
- It is located in the city!
Experience what life behind bars was like for some of Australia's most notorious villains – learn about their life and crimes, their trials and treatment. Also, step into the shoes of a hangman.
After the trip, we will be heading down to Nasi Lemak House, situated along 115 Grattan Street. So for those who are pining for some good authentic nasi lemak, you shouldn't miss out on this! Tried and tested, the many variations of nasi lemak and teh tarik here are worth going for. Other favourites include curry laksa, mee goreng and nasi goreng pattaya. Of course, everything served there is halal so you don't have to worry!
Please register for the trip using the form below.
This event is BYO cash! We will collect the O.M.G. entrance free on the day itself.
Please note that members are required to show proof of their membership to pay member's price. Also, all non-members attending the event will get free Singsoc membership for 2010!
